Our History
Established in 2004, Hands of Hope Clinic stands as Henry County’s only charitable provider of medical, dental, and mental health counseling services. Our mission is to combat healthcare inequities by offering compassionate care to uninsured, low-income residents who fall outside the scope of Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits. We are committed to restoring health and well-being, improving community health, and reducing unnecessary emergency room visits for non-urgent medical needs.

The vision for Hands of Hope Clinic began in 1995, when Janet Turner, during a door-to-door food ministry in Stockbridge, Georgia, encountered numerous individuals lacking basic medical and dental care. Inspired by this need, Janet initiated plans to establish Henry County’s first and only charitable clinic. She united a dedicated group of community members and organizations to bring this vision to life. Founded on Christian principles of compassion and grace, Hands of Hope began its mission of serving the underserved and improving overall community health.
In 2004, Janet’s dream was realized when Hands of Hope Clinic welcomed its first patient at McDonough Presbyterian Church. As the demand for services grew, so did the clinic. In 2015, through a transformative partnership with Piedmont Henry Hospital, the clinic expanded its capacity significantly, transitioning to a fully staffed, full-time clinic at its current location on the hospital campus.
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2024, Hands of Hope Clinic reflects on two decades of service and growth. Today, we are powered by a dedicated team of staff, along with the vital support of medical and non-medical volunteers who generously give their time, expertise, and resources. Since our inception, over 6,313 patients have received life-changing care through more than 30,976 visits. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our volunteers and donors.
Through our Medical, Dental, and Mental Health programs, we continue to provide hope to those who otherwise would have none. Together, we are reducing healthcare inequities and enhancing the overall health of our community.
